week 2: letssingsinglets

cut & paste singlet

I am becoming much more concerned with construction and economical processes, what will give the sharpest, cleanest result. I love beautifully constructed garments, but i also have an appreciation for things that are made poorly but with 100% effort and the best intentions(not laziness). For my own singlet I combined three singlets into the one garment, trying to cohere them by giving them similar intentions as a whole, but very different characters as individuals. I also wanted to play with the idea of stretch, trying to subvert or undermine this quality, through layering with a saboteur (woven) under the correct application.

  1. Hi Blake,
this toile is very interesting. I also appreciate your comments around beautifully made vs poorly made. perhaps it has something to do with breaking against the sometimes conservative or strict notions of clothing craft? this exercise shows how flaws or things that are not necessarily celebrated in the trad. fashion world embrace. weaves and knits together fight, but can create some nice moments. further engage with how this exercise of repetion has roduced this outcome related to expanding the ways things can be worn.
